Jane Gibbons Rhoads

mcm-p-9895-l7-6-803x1030Jane Gibbons Rhoads was born in 1870, the second daughter of William Gibbons Rhoads and Sarah Wistar.  She attended the Germantown Friends’ School and married Marriott Canby Morris in 1897.  She initially expressed trepidation about marrying Marriott, who she viewed as a friend.  However their marriage was a happy one and resulted in three children, Elliston Perot Morris Jr., Marriott Canby Morris Jr., and Janet Morris.  Jane shared her husband’s enthusiasm for outdoor activities and championed various social causes, including the American Friends Service Committee.
